Dark Dystopian Fiction That Cuts Deep

"My Twelve-Year-Old Wife: Across Timelines, Some Loves Refuse to Die" by Dan Uselton is a mixture of time-travel thriller and psychological thriller. There are two main characters: Dan and his wife, Celia. However, they appear and interact in different time loops. Dan mostly is with his future wife [about 12 years old]… from another timeline. Those timelines multiply and interfere with each other without explanation of how that is possible. Yet, this multi-threaded psychological thriller is suitable for readers who love nightmares.

When I first saw the title of this book, I was a little uneasy about it. But I saw one of the other reviews that there was nothing perverse about it, I decided to give it a read. It was a suspenseful story related to multiple time travels. The MMC's wife disappears and then comes back as a 12-year-old whose life is in danger. One thing that I had a slight problem with was I found the multiple time travels a little confusing. Another thing was I didn't understand why the MMC didn't try to get a gun to protect himself and his wife from the bad guy. I still found the book entertaining, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I would recommend it.

I went into Memoirs of a Serial Killer: He Collects Trophies. Now Someone Is Collecting Him not totally sure what to expect—but wow, this one pulls you in fast. Right from the start, the story hooks you with a really interesting premise: a serial killer who’s been living a controlled, almost normal life suddenly has everything thrown off balance when something hits close to home. That shift alone makes it feel different from your typical thriller.

I picked up Memoirs of a Serial Killer expecting a tight character study, and sometimes it delivers. The strongest aspect is access to Tom’s mindset. His internal logic is disturbing yet coherent, which maintains the tension. The shift from controlled predator to unraveling vigilante adds an engaging layer. The multiple perspectives help expand the story. Seeing the effects on his wife, potential victims, and others provides context and raises the stakes. It also reinforces the idea that no one fully understands what is happening.
